Poached Pears in Tea
Nov 04, 2025
Pears are all over the farmers markets right now, and this recipe is an easy and elegant way to enjoy their delicate flavor. Packed with fiber, pears are a hydrating and soothing treat during windy, dry Fall, especially beneficial for scratchy throats or lingering coughs. Try using Earl Grey or other flavored teas!
Ingredients
- 4 cups strong black tea
- Four pears, halved
- Optional: ¼ cup sugar
Put the pears in a medium saucepan with the tea and simmer for 20-30 minutes until the pears are tender. Remove the pears with a slotted spoon and scoop out their cores (a melon baller is the easiest way to do this). Simmer the poaching liquid for another 10 minutes to make a syrup, adding sugar if you like. Serve the pears with a spoonful of syrup and toppings like greek yogurt, creme fraiche, ice cream, coconut cream, toasted nuts or seeds and drizzled honey
