Your Qi Follows Your Mind
Jun 27, 2025
When I first heard the phrase “Your qi follows your mind,” I thought, “Well, that explains a lot of things!” My mind, left unattended, is quite rambunctious and unruly.
An unfocused mind can lead you down all sorts of scary and disruptive paths. A focused mind can be an agent of healing and positive change.
High-level athletes train not just on the track or in the pool, but also in their minds by visualizing themselves running the race under a certain time or executing the perfect dive. Their qi follows their mind.
Even a few minutes of mind-consciousness a day can have a positive impact on your energy, which translates into mental and physical health benefits.
The simplest way to do this is by paying attention to something right in front of you.
As I write this, I look up and see a lovely house plant. I choose to spend a few minutes letting my eyes and mind rest on the plant. My breath naturally slows, and my shoulders relax as I notice the color variations on the leaves and the way the afternoon light reflects off them. I grow aware that both the plant and I are breathing.
During this mini-reset, my qi is following my mind to the plant, creating a positive circuit flowing between us.
I could do this with many objects in my room - the orange salt lamp on the side table, the amethyst crystal on the bookshelf, the small but evocative print on the wall.
Moments of consciously directing my mind to rest on something of beauty, peace, or joy encourage my qi to follow along,
In the realm of energy work, little is big. You will never fully tame your wild mind. Nor do you need to.
Cultivate moments,
