It’s the Little Things…

May 28, 2025

We ended a recent clinical team meeting with each of us sharing one small thing we are doing to help stay balanced and present as we navigate the daily tidal waves of fear, grief, and uncertainty, while also holding space for our patients as they navigate the same.

I love this simple exercise, as it reminds us of the power and importance of choosing to pay attention to what is positive, loving, creating, and enjoyable, even in the midst of so much suffering.

See how Energy Matters staff are staying grounded.

  • Mandy: “I'm enjoying my favorite non-sugary botanical sparkling beverages from Dram. The holy basil & lemon and the lavender & lemon balm are particular favorites. They're a great, quick, refreshing palate cleanse - calming and tasty!
  • Angela: “I’ve curated my social media to have lots of humor. Especially animals doing funny things and talented comedians. Laughter just lightens my day!
  • Kari: “I create comic strips that feature the neighborhood cats and their imagined community.”
  • Kirstin: “I’m rereading favorite childhood books - The Secret Garden, Wind in the Willows, The Little Prince, etc.”
  • Kirsten: “The adults in my Gen X/Elder Millennial household have been rewatching classic episodes of The Simpsons from the nineties. Still hilarious, so deeply familiar, and a comforting reminder of what feels like a simpler time.”
  • Ana: “Spending more time taking care of my plants and my little garden this spring - infinitely calming and nurturing..”
  • Prajna: “Enjoying the blossoms of spring every day - looking at all the colors, and literally stopping to smell the roses.”

What you pay attention to affects your health and well-being. Choosing joy and laughter is an act of self-care. It is not about denial, not caring, or putting your head in the sand. It is medicine - important medicine always, and especially now.

Are you cultivating joy daily? If so, I’d love to hear how.

If not, please commit to this powerful act starting today.

Energy Matters,
Kirstin Lindquist
