Winter Solstice 2022

Dec 21, 2022

Today is the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The shortest day and longest night of the year. Deepest Winter.

Winter Solstice reminds us that activity needs to be balanced with stillness. Introspection and inner reflection are important aspects of caring for yourself.

Perhaps you feel moved to sit in the darkness tonight and reflect on the light you bring into the world, and the light you want to bring into the world.

Or light a candle and practice the ancient art trataka (candle gazing).

You might ask yourself: “How have I been moving in the world this past year? Where am I acting in alignment with what I value, with what is most important to me? What am I proud of? Where have I been out of alignment? What adjustments and course corrections do I want to make?”

Or simply close your eyes and be still.

Each day, each month, each year you have the opportunity to become more of who you truly are, more of who you choose to be.

Winter Poem
by Nikki Giovanni

once a snowflake fell
on my brow and i loved
it so much and i kissed
it and it was happy and called its cousins
and brothers and a web
of snow engulfed me then
i reached to love them all
and i squeezed them and they became
a spring rain and i stood perfectly
still and was a flower
